1. Taking pharma company Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Co Ltd as the leader, Taizhou has attracted a number of well-known international pharmaceutical companies to locate there. These include Nestle, Astra Zeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim, Takeda, Aurobindo, Wuxi Apptech and national top 100 pharmaceutical companies such as SZYY Pharmaceutical and JumpCan Pharmaceutical.

2. As the first national pharmaceutical high-tech zone and the only one jointly built by a number of ministries and the provincial government, the Taizhou Medical High-tech Zone is home to more than 1,200 domestic and overseas medical-related enterprises, as well as 2,100 approved medicine innovation applications which are global leaders and are domestically advanced, with 4,200 high-level professionals having started up businesses there.

3. In the biopharmaceutical industry, there are 14 enterprises above a designated size and nearly 50 kinds of vaccine products. One of them – Recbio – has gained a fifth production license in the city and has the fourth one in Jiangsu province for its recombinant two-component COVID-19 vaccine. Five enterprises have obtained production licenses for human use vaccines, accounting for half that in the province. Two resident firms – Taizhou Mabtech Pharmaceutical Co Ltd and Qyuns Therapeutics – rank among China's top 30 innovative enterprises for antibody drugs.

4. In new preparations within the chemicals medicine industry, Taizhou has attracted 18 chemical medicine enterprises above a designated size. Among them, Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group was top of the Chinese medicine Top 100 list for six consecutive years in 2014-2019 and was second in 2020. Its star products – such as Dezocine and levofloxacin hydrochloride – have taken big shares of the domestic market, with the first-class new medicine Leovornidazole phosphate disodium for injections being approved for marketing.

5. As for the modern TCM industry, eight Chinese medicine enterprises above a designated size have formed a cluster there in the cardiovascular field and new Chinese medicine dosages – forming a TCM R&D and production system that is modern, clinical value-oriented and innovation-driven. In addition, six TCM materials standards from Longfengtang developed by Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Co Ltd and SZYY Pharmaceutical were taken as the European pharmacopoeia standards. Weisu granule, Lancen oral liquid and Lanqin oral liquid are well known all over the country.

6. In special medical food industry, there are three special medical formula food enterprises. The first factory for liquid special medical food was built by Nestle Health in China. Moreover, Kwins Health and CSPC Zhongnuo Pharmaceutical have gained special medical food registration certificates, bringing the number to 12 in Taizhou, accounting for three quarters of the certificates in the province.
