The city of Taizhou in East China's Jiangsu province held a key education work conference on Jan 29, which advocated that much more needed to be done in the area.

It's the third year in a row that the local government convened its first meeting on education as soon as the Spring Festival holiday ended.

According to the meeting, Taizhou will sharpen its competitiveness in terms of talent with the help of education and facilitate the city's modernization with Chinese characteristics through the modernization of education.

In 2021, Taizhou vowed to make the utmost efforts to promote educational reform, with the best resources and greatest support. It rolled out a group of 18 policies to prioritize the high-quality development of education.

Last year, more detailed measures were taken to further improve the basic and vocational education in the city.

Moving forwards, plans are for the education sector to enjoy priority in resources distribution. Statistics showed that about 8.24 billion yuan ($1.22 billion) has been invested in the field since 2021. A total of 132 schools have started new construction projects and 127 ones have been completed, offering over 58,000 enrollments to date.

Currently, the coverage of provincial high-quality kindergartens, the rate of compulsory education schools passing the standardized construction acceptance and the coverage of three-star high schools all rank top in the province.

A special mechanism for bianzhi – a government-funded post that can normally be extended for life and comes with a stable career with housing subsidies and other benefits – has currently been created to improve the economic conditions of teachers.

All compulsory education schools, rural schools and less advanced schools are now participating in the group school administration system. What's more, tens of thousands of teaching staff offer pair-up help to left-behind students, so that every child can enjoy the chance to succeed in life.

As the city's latest construction plan on educational reform experimental zones laid out, a group of six experimental zones will be launched at the same time this year.

These zones will focus on different areas. For instance, Jingjiang city will center on the integrated development of industries and education, Taixing city will stress the cultivation of high-quality teaching personnel with innovative ideas and Xinghua city will emphasize the digitization of education.
