The Changzhou-Taixing Yangtze River Bridge, linking Jiangsu province's Changzhou and Taizhou cities in East China, completed its first steel girder lifting for the main structure, marking a turning point in its construction.

The 1,280-metric ton steel girder is the first large section of the bridge. After it was lifted onto a sliding support position, it was dragged 300 meters to the final design position.

The whole bridge has 91 large sections and the section lengths range from 14 to 28 meters, with their weight going from 900 to 1,856 tons.

After the steel girders were completed in the factory, they were transported to the bridge by waterway and then lifted and erected.

The total length of the Changzhou-Taixing Yangtze River Bridge will be 10.03 kilometers. It will start from Liuweigang Avenue in Taixing city, cross the main channel of the Yangtze River and end in the Xinbei district of Changzhou city.

The bridge is known to be the first river-crossing structure over the Yangtze River that integrates an expressway, intercity railroad and a primary highway.
