The city of Taizhou in East China's Jiangsu province came alive with celebrations for World Book and Copyright Day on April 23, marked by a series of events held across the city.

The month-long festivities kicked off at the Anding Academy, once the teaching grounds of renowned educator, Hu Yuan (993-1059) – launching both the Hu Yuan Reading Month and the Hailing district reading month on April 22.

This year's reading extravaganza features a rich array of activities. From prose recitations to dialect reading sessions, author encounters and university lectures, a total of 123 events are planned to engage the community.

Notably, this edition of the Hu Yuan Reading Month is seeing a historic collaboration with the Hongsu reading event from Hailing district –introducing a diverse range of activities encompassing themed, branded, group and categorized reading experiences.

The first-ever digital reading experience space in Taizhou, the Lexue Book House - Meilanting space – featuring innovative digital reading service facilities such as reading pavilions and audio book walls – attracted many visitors on April 22.

The venue also hosted creative markets, book exhibitions, flower arrangement displays, tea ceremonies, performances of the traditional guqin stringed instrument and paper-cutting demonstrations.
