Twelve international students from Jiangsu Agri-Animal Husbandry Vocational College visited the seal-carving studio of master Xu Jianmin on Aug 5. The students, who hail from seven different countries, including Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Cameroon, got an in-depth experience of this millennia-old art form.
Xu introduced the history and fundamentals of seal carving and demonstrated the creation process, from stone selection to sketching and carving, completing the elegant, symmetrical design of the character "泰" in just a few minutes, to the amazement of the students.
According to Wang Fei, counselor at the college's School of International Education, the students experienced local intangible heritage items such as the Qintong Boat Festival and Taizhou bonsai art. Upcoming sessions will offer even more cultural immersion, enabling more international students to become propagators of China's rich traditional culture.
