The first batch of steel components for the new Sava Bridge in Belgrade, Serbia, has left Jingjiang, Taizhou, marking an important milestone in the project led by China State Construction Steel Structure Jiangsu.
The shipment will travel via Taicang Port and is expected to arrive at the construction site by late November.
The new Sava Bridge, a key infrastructure project for Belgrade, will replace the old bridge at the same location with a sleek, 420-meter-long and 38-meter-wide steel structure. Built to rigorous European standards, it will include four lanes of traffic in each direction, tram tracks, and pedestrian viewing platforms. When finished, it will function as a crucial new transport route and a recognizable landmark for the city.
The initial shipment, weighing 2,862 metric tons, includes the main girder sections and arch bases. These were produced by CSCEC Steel's plants in Wuhan and Jingjiang, with the latter responsible for over 1,700 tons of core components.
"Every steel section was assembled with millimeter-precision before leaving the factory, enabling modular construction similar to building with giant Lego blocks," said Chen Gong, head of the CSCEC Steel Jiangsu. Advanced intelligent equipment was used during production, reducing the manufacturing cycle of a single steel box girder by 15 days and greatly enhancing cutting precision and efficiency.
In recent years, enterprises in Jingjiang have utilized smart manufacturing to secure major overseas projects, such as Malaysia's East Coast Rail Link stations and Serbia's national stadium. These successes continue to boost Jingjiang's international reputation for intelligent manufacturing.
