International students discover Taizhou's culture

The 2025 Reading Jiangsu cultural experience for international students, themed "Reading Taizhou: A Journey into Water City and Wellness Culture", was held at Jiangsu Agri-animal Husbandry Vocational College from Sept 26 to 27.

The event brought together over 150 representatives from 29 countries, including Russia, India, Colombia, Costa Rica, Morocco, Cameroon, and Kazakhstan, along with faculty members from 24 universities across Jiangsu province.

On Sept 26, participants visited the China Medical City Exhibition Hall, the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Park, the Ancient Salt Transport Canal, and Taizhou Old Street. Through guided tours and interactive experiences such as practicing Baduanjin (a traditional Chinese exercise) and crafting herbal sachets, they gained a deeper understanding of Taizhou's achievements in medicine, wellness, history, and urban livability.

The next morning's reading and sharing session featured a keynote lecture by Huang Bingyu, former deputy director of the Taizhou Museum, who offered an in-depth interpretation of the city's cultural heritage. International students also recited classic literary works related to Taizhou, appreciating the beauty of Chinese culture.

In the subsequent intangible cultural heritage workshop, students learned traditional crafts such as Taizhou seal carving, Hailing pyrography, and palm weaving under the guidance of local artisans. The hands-on experience allowed them to feel the ingenuity of traditional craftsmanship and deepen their connection with Taizhou's local culture.
