The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently announced the 2025 list of national 5G factories, which includes 560 projects across 48 industries in China. Taizhou stood out with six enterprises making the list, ranking sixth in Jiangsu province.

According to a local official from the Taizhou Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, the selected enterprises represent key sectors such as biopharmaceuticals, auto parts, and marine equipment. They exemplify how 5G technology has been deeply integrated into industrial production and stand as leaders in their respective fields.

A 5G factory refers to a modern smart factory that uses fifth-generation mobile communication technology as its core infrastructure to digitize, network, and automate every link of production, management, logistics, and maintenance. With 5G's advantages of high speed, low latency, and large connectivity, these factories improve production efficiency, reduce operational costs, and enhance competitiveness.

CNOOC (Taizhou) Petrochemical is one such example. According to Cai Yongyong, manager of the company's information management department, 5G technology has connected all production, monitoring, logistics, and management systems. The automation rate of its atmospheric and vacuum units has risen from 30.55 percent to 98.9 percent, while daily alarm frequency has dropped from 4,000 to around 100 and daily manual operations have fallen from over 3,000 to about 100. The accuracy rate of equipment fault prediction now exceeds 98 percent, maintenance costs have decreased by 10 percent, and leakage rates in hazardous equipment have fallen below 0.5 percent.

So far, Taizhou has built 12 national-level and four provincial-level 5G factories. The city continues to promote the integration of 5G in safety management, asset supervision, and collaborative operations, having developed a total of 223 industrial 5G applications.
