Taizhou has made notable progress in becoming a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable city over the past five years.

Since 2020, the municipal government has invested over 50 million yuan ($7.15 million) in air quality monitoring projects. Key initiatives have included the phased remediation of coal-fired boilers, VOCs control across industries, stricter vehicle and ship emissions management, and enhanced dust pollution prevention, all contributing to stronger air pollution control.

To better protect local water bodies, authorities have implemented full-chain monitoring of riverside discharge points and ship pollutants. The city also established China's only national experimental zone for the prevention of groundwater pollution, creating replicable management practices and technical achievements.

Taizhou has also advanced green development in industry, establishing four national-level green parks, 30 green factories, and four green supply chain enterprises. Energy consumption per unit of industrial output among enterprises above the designated scale has fallen by more than 24 percent.

Urban greening has seen major growth: since the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the city has upgraded or expanded 2.74 million square meters of green space and built or renovated 210 parks, raising per capita urban park space to 18.38 square meters.
