Construction of the Yangtze River tunnel for the Yancheng-Yixing High-Speed Railway entered the shield tunneling stage on June 30.
Located beneath the Yangtze River, the tunnel connects Jingjiang in Taizhou with Jiangyin in Wuxi. Stretching 8,130 meters, it features a single-tube, double-track design with a maximum depth of 71 meters and is built to accommodate trains traveling at speeds of up to 250 kilometers per hour.
The tunnel is a critical section of the Yancheng-Yixing High-Speed Railway, which will strengthen transportation links across the Yangtze River and improve connectivity between northern and southern Jiangsu province.
The 311-kilometer railway is designed for trains traveling up to 350 km/h. It will start in Yancheng, pass through Taizhou, cross the Yangtze River to Wuxi and Changzhou, and terminate in Yixing.
