In celebration of the entire month of March, dedicated to the campaign "Learn from Comrade Lei Feng", student volunteers from Taizhou city – in East China's Jiangsu province – were out and about.
The volunteers from Taizhou University's Music College visited Taikang community in Taizhou city, to host music classes for local children.
Lei Feng is a national hero. The Chinese People's Liberation Army soldier and philanthropist, who died at the age of 21 some 61 years ago, was renowned for his altruism and dedication. He is remembered through a national remembrance day held each year.
The initiative aimed to embody the spirit of Lei Feng, a revered figure known for his selfless service to others, while spreading love and warmth through the power of music.
During the event, volunteers shared inspiring stories of Lei Feng's dedication to helping others, emphasizing his famous quote: "The life of a man is limited, but the service to the people is limitless." Through these narratives, it's hoped children will be encouraged to adopt a similar ethos of service from an early age.
Using practical examples, the volunteers taught the children how to apply Lei Feng's principles in their daily lives. From assisting the elderly to returning found items, the lessons aimed to instill values of kindness, respect for elders and community responsibility.
The highlight of the day was a group singing session of the song Learning from Lei Feng, a Good Example. Guided by the volunteers, children enthusiastically learned the lyrics and melody, their faces beaming with joy.
