Brief introduction of Jiangyan district

Geography

The district of Jiangyan is administered by the prefecture-level city of Taizhou, which is located in the middle of East China's Jiangsu province.

With a total area of 857.8 square kilometers and a permanent residential  population of 671,000, it has jurisdiction over nine towns, four residential districts, one provincial economic development zone and one provincial tourist resort.

Within lies the Qinhu River scenic area, a national 5A-rated scenic spot, as well as two national 5A-rated scenic spots, Qintong Ancient Town and the Guluotang Cultural Block.

History

Jiangyan has a long recorded history, which dates back to 117 BC.

During the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), a salt merchant named Jiang and his son led the local people to marshal their resources and build a weir to fight floods, hence the name "Jiang Yan".

In July 1994, Jiangyan city was established at the county level. In December 2012, the Jiangyan district was established.

Economy

In 2021, Jiangyan district posted a GDP of 78.15 billion yuan ($11.21 billion), with the general public budget revenue reaching 4.12 billion yuan, per capita GDP of 116,600 yuan and the per capita disposable income of residents coming in at 42,628 yuan.

Currently Jiangyan has formed three major industries for new energy, new equipment and new infrastructure and six key industrial supply chains including those for AI and new materials.

Last year, the industrial added value of the district reached 27.85 billion yuan and the output value of high-tech industries accounted for 54.7 percent of total industrial output value, some 21.7 percent up on 2012.

On top of that, the total value of imports and exports of the region reached $1.91 billion in 2021.

Transportation

There are eight airports within 250 km, which include Shanghai Pudong Airport and Nanjing Lukou International Airport. What's more, Yangzhou Taizhou International Airport is only 30 minutes' drive from Jiangyan district.

By train, Shanghai can be reached in two hours and Beijing in five hours from Jiangyan district.

At the end of last year, the total length of national and provincial highways in Jiangyan district had reached 89 km and the total length of rural roads had reached 1,630 km.

Moreover, Jiangyan district is only 30 km away from Taizhou Port, a national Class A open port. In 2021, the district completed 2.87 million tons of cargo throughput.
