Convenient care signs were recently hung in front of 269 new village-level clinics in the Jiangyan district of Taizhou city – located in East China's Jiangsu province – allowing rural folks to get a consultation and medicine at their doorstep.
Unlike urgent care at hospitals, where immediate medical service offers outpatient care for the treatment of acute and chronic illness and injury, if you are experiencing a mild illness or minor injuries, a convenient care clinic – often known as walk-in care clinics – will be able to treat you.
Chen Fankou, deputy director of the Jiangyan district health commission, said that with the increase in COVID-19 patients, the number of outpatient consultations in large urban hospitals has gradually increased.
"The village clinic has extensive experience in treating influenza and upper respiratory tract infections," Chen said.
"We have set up convenient care clinics in village-level medical institutions to provide services such as diagnosis and treatment, diverting the pressure of diagnosis and treatment in large hospitals in urban areas," he added.
Chen said that the Jiangyan municipal government is prioritizing giving drugs to primary medical institutions. The ICU beds in Jiangyan tertiary hospital have doubled, while a second-level hospital was designated as a sub-designated one in order to boost the treatment efforts.
Many places in Jiangsu are promoting high-quality medical resources at grassroots rural areas and guiding patients to seek medical treatment there in an orderly manner.
