The Jiangyan district of Taizhou city – in East China's Jiangsu province – has embraced digital agriculture technology in its flower industry, resulting in increased efficiency and income for locals.

The Jiejiegao Flower Production Base, situated at the Modern Horticulture Industrial Park in Gugao town, is a pioneering establishment that's adopted the technology in the district.

With its smart-controlled greenhouses, movable seedbeds and interconnected systems, the 8,000-square-meter base is said to have reduced production times, improved shelf lives, minimized resources usage and raised incomes.

The base has shortened the flowering period by 20 days, extended the on-shelf period by 15 days, reduced fertilizer and pesticide usage by 15-20 percent, reduced electricity consumption by 30 percent and increased per-mu (1 mu = 0.067 hectares) income by about 10 percent.

Encouraged by these outcomes, the base plans to extend this technology to other agricultural sectors, benefiting more farmers and contributing to general rural vitalization.

Wang Lujie, a rural vitalization volunteer in Gugao town, said the overall desire was to promote this intelligent agricultural approach to pave the way for wider prosperity and rural development.
