The Jiangyan district of Taizhou city – located in East China's Jiangsu province – had established 25 pocket parks as of Dec 13 and the district will now support more of such projects to improve the quality of life and environment of its residents.

The new Manzhuang pocket park, covering about 12,000 square meters, will be completed by the end of this month.

"It used to be a dump within nobody's jurisdiction and was full of garbage and waste. We're so glad that it has turned into a little park," a resident surnamed Tian said.

According to the project manager, the park has different areas for adults and children. It will be an ideal place for fitness, leisure activities, cultural exhibitions and public services.

"The park has been equipped with barrier-free facilities, benches and direct drinking water systems," the manager added.

About 900 meters east of Manzhuang pocket park, another little park is under construction. With a planned area of 10,000 sq m, the project will be built into a green public space for locals.

The new place is full of trees and plants. Chinese tallow, camphor, osmanthus, maples and red plums line the jogging track, while the ground is covered by azaleas, hydrangeas and orchids – establishing a lush, dense and orderly green space.
