Jiangyan Port – located in the Jiangyan district of Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province – recently significantly expanded its facilities with the addition of a new international container terminal, or ICT.

It did so in the wake of the launch ceremony of the Shanghai International Port Group ICT Jiangyan Port, which was launched in the district on March 7.

During the event, the Jiangsu UNIBR International Port Logistics Group Co Ltd and Shanghai International Port Group, or SIPG, signed an Inland Container Terminal project cooperation agreement.

The agreement aims to leverage SIPG's foreign trade container sources, route advantages and service functions to benefit Jiangyan Port – providing improved access for import and export enterprises in the region.

The SIPG ICT mode extends Shanghai Port's container terminals and yards to the hinterland. This offers a broad range of services – including export container imports, import container pick-ups, import/export container transfers, transportation and transshipments.

During the project's launch, two river container ships loaded with goods formally opened the ICT mode on their maiden voyage, directly connecting to Shanghai Port.

Overall, the project is expected to significantly boost the operational efficiency of Jiangyan Port – achieving lower costs, higher efficiency and simplified procedures for companies in Taizhou and in the middle Jiangsu regions.

Located in the Jiangyan Economic Development Zone, Jiangyan Port handles a wide variety of products and has evolved into a comprehensive logistics hub for loading and unloading operations.

Since the start of the year, the operations of Jiangyan Port has shown significant growth. It handled 3,658 twenty-foot equivalent units or TEUs – the standard container size – between January and February, a whopping 79.58 percent year-on-year increase.
