Jiangyan district, Taizhou, recently completed a comprehensive survey of ancient and noble trees, as well as reserve resources, within its central urban area. The survey identified eight ancient trees and 23 reserve trees, with detailed electronic archives established to support conservation efforts.

Ancient trees are defined as those over 100 years old, while notable trees refer to those which hold significant historical, cultural, scientific, or commemorative value. Reserve trees are aged between 50 and 100 years.

Jiangyan confirmed one special-grade ancient tree (over 500 years old), one first-grade ancient tree (300–500 years old), and six second-grade ancient trees (100–300 years old), with an average age of 293 years. Among the reserve resources, six trees are aged 50–80 years, and 17 are 80–100 years old, with an average age of 80 years.

The survey collected detailed data, including species, age, height, trunk diameter, location, and health status, laying the foundation for tailored conservation efforts.

Additionally, Jiangyan has developed care guidelines focusing on pest and disease prevention, water and fertilizer management, and pruning. Protective measures, such as fencing and lightning rods for taller trees near buildings, are also included to ensure their safety.

Furthermore, Jiangyan established digital archives for the trees, enhancing the precision and visualization of management and protection work.

Moving forward, Jiangyan will continue to strengthen routine maintenance and improve digital management, ensuring each ancient tree stands as a living testament to the city's history and natural beauty.
