As peach season peaks, the honey peach orchards of Longgang village in Jiangyan's Qintong town are bustling with activity. Villagers rise early to pick and pack ripe, juicy peaches, ensuring same-day delivery to wholesale markets and supermarkets in Shanghai, Suzhou, Yangzhou, and beyond.
Since it started cultivating peaches in 2008, Longgang village has developed over 160 mu (10.67 hactares) of orchards, primarily growing the prized Baifeng variety. Thanks to advanced cultivation techniques, this year's harvest is expected to yield around 1,500 kilogram per mu, generating an average income of approximately 15,000 yuan ($2090.04) per mu.
The thriving peach industry not only boosts local farmers' incomes but also strengthens Jiangyan's role as a key supplier of high-quality produce, connecting rural innovation with urban markets across the region.
