The first batch of "June Yellow" crabs — young crabs harvested around the sixth month on the traditional Chinese calendar — has hit the market in Jiangyan district, marking the start of the summer delicacy season and bringing farmers their seasonal income.

Known for their thin shells, tender meat, and rich roe, "June Yellow" crabs are a sought-after summer treat, often prepared by steaming, flour-frying, or stir-frying with rice cakes. Though smaller than fully grown crabs, their sweet and delicate flavor makes them a favorite among locals.

At a 200-mu crab farm in Sanshui subdistrict, farmer Tang Xia has dedicated 30 mu to these young crabs. She currently harvests about 50 kilograms daily, with total sales expected to reach around 150,000 yuan ($22,140) by season's end.

Jiangyan district boasts about 200,000 mu (approximately 13,300 hectares) of crab farming area. The crabs it cultivated have not only enriched dining tables across the country during summer months but have also provided a reliable and growing source of income for local farmers.
