The world's first demonstration project for the heat storage technology of molten salt – designed for coal-fired power generation equipment – was recently put into operation by power utility Jiangsu Guoxin Corporation Limited.

The company is based in the Jingjiang Economic and Technological Development Zone in Jingjiang city – a county-level city administered by Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province.

The power generation company is said to be taking the lead in applying the heat storage technology of molten salt in the coal-fired power field, to ensure the safe and stable operation of the power grid.

The heat storage technology of molten salt has the properties of high safety, low costs, a long life and a large capacity. This effectively solves the problem that coal-fired power generation equipment can't guarantee the gas quality during low-load operations – and increases its stability in low-load conditions.

In addition, the technology is said to maximize the energy efficiency of the whole system and promote the construction of a new power system based on new energy sources.

When ramped up to full capacity, it is projected to ensure that nearly 20,000 households and enterprises use renewable green electricity and annually reduce 100,000 tons of coal burning and 240,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
