Dongxing town in the county-level city of Jingjiang – administered by the prefecture-level city of Taizhou in East China's Jiangsu province – is boosting its local government services.

It recently launched a new service initiative called "Birth One Thing". This aims to provide a streamlined service by combining health, public security, social security, health insurance and other service matters into a single platform.

To achieve this, the town is breaking down data barriers in government services and integrating business information systems across all its departments.

Dongxing has also established a government services team, and launched a series of publicity activities to promote the change. These activities include distributing brochures and using social media platforms such as WeChat to communicate with the public.

In addition, the Dongxing Township Convenience Service Center has organized professional skills and service awareness training for its staff members and has introduced an integrated information window mode, to ensure the public is always provided with precise and convenient services.

Ms Zhu, a mother of two, said that previously, obtaining a birth medical certificate, household registration certificate, medical insurance registration and medical insurance payments for a newborn baby required multiple visits and was time-consuming and labor-intensive.

But with the new system, she was able to complete all the necessary paperwork in one day, making life a whole lot easier.
