The 800-year-old Yue Fei Temple, located in Shengci town – in Jingjiang city in East China's Jiangsu province – is set to celebrate the unveiling of its revamped Yue Fei Memorial Gate on June 28.

The gate has been renovated in honor of the heroic general of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), who led his men to battle against the invading Jin army.

The memorial gate features various font styles of the character "Yue" and the four Chinese characters "jin zhong bao guo" – which means "serve the country with the utmost loyalty".

These four characters were tattooed on Yue's back by his mother, symbolizing his undying dedication to the state.

The Yue Fei Temple holds great significance in Shengci town, inspiring a complete Song Dynasty-inspired redesign of the town's landmark buildings and the creation of a unique "Yue" cultural and historical block.

"This year marks the 920th anniversary of Yue Fei's birth," a local official said.

"The opening ceremony of the seventh Shengci Lotus Festival on June 28 will include the official unveiling of the newly built Yue Fei Memorial Gate," the official added.
