The incomes and consumption expenditure of the residents of Jingjiang – a county-level city, administered by Taizhou, in East China's Jiangsu province – showed positive growth in the first half of the year.

That comes in the wake of its moves to implement policies to promote income growth and stabilize employment – including increased assistance, entrepreneurial services and skills training.

The per capita disposable income of residents in the city hit 27,202 yuan ($3,787) in the six months, a 6.2 percent increase compared with the previous year.

Urban residents received average per capita disposable income of 32,854 yuan in the same period, while rural residents experienced a higher growth rate with an average income of 17,539 yuan, surpassing urban residents by 2.1 percentage points.

Consumer spending also increased, with residents' per capita expenditure reaching 18,591 yuan, a 9.2 percent gain compared with the previous corresponding period.

Urban residents spent 22,571 yuan and rural residents spent 11,786 yuan on average, recording increases of 8 percent and 12.1 percent, respectively.

To further boost spending, the city distributed 7 million yuan worth of New Year's shopping discount coupons to the public, leading to significant growth in categories such as education, culture, entertainment, transportation and communications.
