The eight-day Spring Festival holiday sparked a consumer boom in Jingjiang city – a county-level city administered by Taizhou city, in East China's Jiangsu province – with major business districts and attractions teeming with shoppers.

A statistical benchmark basket of eight retail sample enterprises revealed they increased their sales by 21.24 percent over the same period last year and by 113.22 percent over the same period in 2019.

The city's famed dish, Jingjiang crab dumplings in soup, attracted both local and foreign tourists, with the local Nanyuan Hotel experiencing a peak in sales – averaging over 3,000 orders of soup dumplings daily during the Spring Festival.

Statistics showed that from New Year's Eve to the seventh day of the Chinese New Year, the revenue generated by the city's three big catering enterprises rose 9.77 percent against the previous corresponding period last year and increased by 26.17 percent over the same period in 2019.

Major business malls in Jingjiang – including InCity and Wuyue Plaza – staged shopping promotions and various concessions and activities, enhancing the New Year's customer experience with folk performances and cultural events.

"During the Spring Festival, our sales amounted to 20 million yuan ($2.78 million)," said Wuyue Plaza manager Wang Yu.

"The second to fifth day of the Chinese New Year was the highest peak of our passenger flow during the Spring Festival and the peak passenger flow on that day reached 50,000 people," Wang added.
