Aquatic crab farmers in Lisheng village, Xinqiao town, Jingjiang, a county-level city in Taizhou, East China's Jiangsu province, have recently initiated systematic stock separation procedures across their aquaculture ponds.
"Overcrowded crab stocks necessitate pond division," said Cai Changhao, head of a breeding base in the village. "Water grasses in alternate ponds have fully matured, providing ideal habitats for juvenile crabs."
During separation, Cai manages the stocking density, transferring around 1,500 crabs per mu (0.067 hectares), with a maximum of 1,300 male crabs per mu.
"Close monitoring of growth progress and water conditions follows," said Cai regarding pond management essentials.
This year, the base cultivates crabs on over 80 mu. Employing scientific breeding techniques, last year's crabs were of high quality, averaging more than 4 liang (200 grams), with the largest nearing 8 liang.
