As a key part of the Nantong-Taizhou-Yangzhou offshore equipment and high-tech shipbuilding industrial cluster, Jingjiang, a county-level city in Taizhou, Jiangsu province, has gathered 208 shipbuilding enterprises and supporting manufacturers in recent years, forming China's largest and most comprehensively equipped privately-owned shipbuilding base.
Local major shipbuilders, including New Times Shipbuilding and Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, have order backlogs stretching to 2030, reflecting sustained global demand.
"We have 27 ships under construction in our workshops, totaling 1.67 million metric tons of deadweight tonnage. These ships are being built alongside vessels that are undergoing harbor outfitting," said Zhou Kewei, deputy general manager of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group.
Since the beginning of the year, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has delivered 41 new vessels while securing 48 new orders, maintaining an order backlog of 254 ships valued at $23.9 billion with production scheduled through 2030.
Technological breakthroughs further demonstrate the company's competitive edge. "Current shipbuilding projects incorporate multiple advanced technologies, including Chinese-patented dual-fuel engines, membrane-type fuel tanks, wind sails, and shaft generators, representing cutting-edge global shipbuilding standards," said Zhou.
Meanwhile, Jiangsu New Times Shipbuilding delivered its 500th 10,000-ton vessel in late July and continues working toward its annual target of 30 deliveries. These two industry leaders solidify Jingjiang's stable development in shipbuilding.
Jingjiang now accounts for one-tenth of global shipbuilding completions, one-quarter of China's total, and half of Jiangsu province's total. Supporting industries cover over 1,000 products, including marine diesel engines, anchor chains, rudder shafts, motors, and boilers.
"Our production lines are hectic this year with orders from local and international shipbuilders," said Tao Xing, chairman of Jiangsu Asia Star Anchor Chain. "We currently hold 200,000 tons of anchor chain orders, with offshore engineering product schedules extending beyond mid-next year."
In recent years, the company's products have been equipped on various high-tech vessels for renowned domestic and international enterprises, serving multiple national key marine projects.
