During the flood season, Taixing city, administered by Taizhou, in Jiangsu province, has strengthened its inspection work in order to safeguard the local residents.

Technicians in the Madian hydro-junction service center took advantage of the sunny weather and carried out equipment inspections to ensure the stable operation of five pump valves in the area on July 11.

"During the flood prevention period, we are on duty 24 hours a day to timely conduct drainage inspections according to the flood forecast," said He Rongzhong, an employee of the center.

As the city's main defense against flood prevention and control, the Madian hydro-junction has carried out comprehensive pre-flood inspections before the flood season.

"Since July 7, check-gates and simple ship locks at the Madian hydro-junction have drained 67 million cubic meters of water, reducing the river water level," said Wang Changcai, deputy director of the center.

In Huangqiao town, relevant personnel have been stationed in low-lying areas and major rivers for heavy rain weathers to monitor the water levels, and repair any drainage systems to prevent flooding.
