Taixing, a county-level city in Taizhou, Jiangsu province, has unveiled its agricultural ambitions for the next five years, aiming to build itself into a fresh food hub and a strong agricultural city by 2030.

The plan, outlined in the city's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30), targets green and high-quality agricultural products to make up over 95 percent of total output, with agri-tourism expected to attract 5 million visitors annually.

At the core of the strategy is a model combining fresh food with the health sector. Taixing will expand its specialty brine products and pre-made meals sectors while moving into emerging areas like medical nutrition foods, functional foods, and synthetic biology.

By 2030, total agricultural processing revenue is expected to exceed 36 billion yuan ($5.3 billion), with agri-tourism generating over 1.7 billion yuan.

Grain output will remain steady at 636,500 metric tons, and aquaculture output will reach 26,000 tons annually. The city will also invest in research platforms, including a bio-fermentation and future food institute, to train a new generation of rural talent.

Rural development will focus on improving infrastructure, public services, and the living environment. Each town in Taixing will develop its own signature industry, and digital marketing through livestreaming will be encouraged. Rural road networks and waterway ecosystems will be upgraded.
