The public terminal at Taixing Port's Qiwei Operation Area, China Railway Construction's first port to be self-funded, built and operated, officially obtained national first-class open port status in February 2026, marking a critical milestone in its opening-up journey.
With a total investment of 1.32 billion yuan ($195.01 million), the terminal boasts 689 meters of Yangtze River shoreline, three berths capable of accommodating up to 70,000, 40,000 and 10,000-DWT (deadweight ton) vessels, respectively, and an annual throughput capacity of 20 million metric tons.
The upgrading of the port's capacity and status is most visibly reflected in the continuous docking of large vessels and the continuous setting of new records. In March 2025, the port handled 78,000 tons of iron ore in 37 hours; in January, it realized the simultaneous berthing of three foreign trade vessels.
Leveraging smart port solutions such as unattended weighing stations and 5G-connected operation systems, the port has delivered nearly 100 million tons of total throughput during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, with its foreign trade volume approaching 10 million tons since its opening.
The port now serves as a key logistics hub, cutting logistics costs for local industries while strengthening connections with the Yangtze River Delta logistics network.
