Explore Taizhou's ship culture

Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province has a unique ship culture with a fascinating history. In this article, we will take you on a journey through the different phases of Taizhou's maritime heritage and showcase the significance of ships in shaping the city's identity over time.  

I. Xinghua Wooden Boat

In ancient times, Zhuhong town in Taizhou, had a renowned workshop for crafting coastal fishing boats. This craft flourished during the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties. In 2006, it was listed as intangible cultural heritage in Jiangsu province, and in 2008, it received national recognition as a traditional skill.
