The major Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-speed Railway started construction of its Taizhou city section in East China's Jiangsu province on Dec 30.

The entire project, on completion, will connect East China's Shanghai, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality and Chengdu city.

The total length of the whole railway line is 554.6 kilometers, including 519.9 kilometers of new railroads – with a total investment of 180.2 billion yuan ($25.87 billion), a design speed of 350 km/h and a total of 16 stations along the line.

The railway section in Taizhou is about 52 km long, involving Taixing city, Jiangyan district and Gaogang district – currently known as the Taizhou Medical High-tech Zone – with an investment of about 12.8 billion yuan.

Since the contractors entered Taizhou in September, the local government and relevant departments have been working together and trying their best to provide services and guarantees.

On completion, the time from Taizhou to Shanghai will be shortened from the current 2.5 hours to about one hour.

Taizhou to Nanjing will be shortened from 1.3 hours to within one hour. Taizhou to Wuhan, Chongqing, Chengdu will only take 2.1 hours, 4.9 hours and 5.8 hours, respectively.
