The Taizhou Medical High-tech Zone – also known as Gaogang district, located in Taizhou city, in East China's Jiangsu province – is continuing to advance along the path to high-quality development, a process it has begun in recent years.
In 2022 its GDP hit 115.3 billion yuan ($16.78 billion), up 2.7 percent year-on-year. Industrial billing sales above a designated size reached 210 billion yuan, up 18 percent year-on-year and revenue from the general public budget rose to 10.1 billion yuan, up 12.6 percent.
A specialist industrial system has been established in the zone, which takes health industry as the lead. It also takes high-end equipment, electronics information, petrochemicals and new materials industries as its focus, with modern services and other sectors as support industries. As such, it's laid a strategic foundation for its high-quality development.

Innovation has been regarded as a core in the zone, bringing lucrative dividends. Last year, the zone's output value from strategic emerging industries accounted for 53 percent of the total and investment in high-tech industries came in at 31.8 percent.
The zone has focused on cultivating innovative areas and has rolled out a raft of action plans to encourage enterprises to conduct R&D of innovative medicine. Through a 3-billion-yuan pharmaceuticals fund, it has released policies to support leading pharma talent and has assisted enterprises to list on the stock market.
In addition, the zone has accelerated planning of new central areas and high-speed rail hubs, to build a modern, international and dynamic ecosystem. It has also pushed forwards with the construction of modern agricultural development demonstration parks, to enable urban and rural areas to enjoy common prosperity.
