In the recent announcement by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Taizhou Medical High-tech Zone, located in Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province, secured 73rd position out of 178 high-tech zones across the country.
That performance marked a significant advancement of seven places since the previous evaluation.
The ranking was based on a comprehensive assessment of key factors of industrial output value, high-tech industry operating income, the research and development investment intensity of enterprises, per capita technology contract turnover, number of high-quality enterprises and the business environment.
In 2024, the zone was estimated to secure a roughly 5 percent increase in its regional GDP. Moreover, it has ranked among the top 10 comprehensive competitive biopharmaceutical industrial parks in China for two consecutive years.

Last year, the zone saw the approval of 121 high-tech businesses and 19 potential unicorns and gazelles. Other highlights include the establishment of the Life Science Taizhou Laboratory and the efficient operation of the Medical Innovation Center (Taizhou) of Peking University.
Add to that, the zone incubated three innovative pharma enterprises on the clinical trial platform and nurtured 10 talented people who were selected for national-level talent programs last year.
Looking ahead, the zone is poised to consolidate its position in high and new technologies, aiming to promote the development of high technologies and industrial transformation.
That's in a bid to expedite the development of new quality productive forces and provide support for Taizhou's high-quality economic and social development.
