In the Taizhou Medical High-tech Zone, Taizhou, Jiangsu province, there's a butterfly orchid planting base where you can purchase the flowers you want for just twenty or thirty yuan ($2.88 to $4.32).

The base is run by Lanling Lanye (Taizhou) Biotechnology Development and is located at the intersection of Shuangma Road and Huoxing Road, Dasi town.

Zhang Ying, technical director of the base, left her original workplace in 2021, with courage and enthusiasm, to take on the operation of the butterfly orchid greenhouse.

Butterfly orchids are extremely picky about their growth environment, preferring high temperatures and humidity but avoiding stuffiness and poor ventilation. They are particularly sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity.

To overcome this challenge, Zhang invested in building a modern intelligent greenhouse and introduced a system from the Netherlands to achieve temperature and humidity control by linking mobile phones, PCs, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).

She also dared to challenge the rarely explored live dyeing technology in the industry, introducing scarce core technology. By injecting dye into the stem of the butterfly orchid, the dye adheres to the cell wall of the petals, cultivating colorful and distinctive varieties.

The total planned area of the base is about 7,000 square meters and is set to be constructed in two phases. The first phase, a 1,800-square-meter high-end intelligent seedling greenhouse, has been put into use and can cultivate over a hundred varieties of butterfly orchid seedlings and flowers every year.
