The ICGEB China Regional Research Center Offshore Laboratory, a transnational joint research and development platform developed by Taizhou in Jiangsu province and the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), has begun operating.
The laboratory is located in Trieste, Italy, the headquarters of ICGEB. It also serves as a world-renowned scientific hub replete with leading research institutions.
Based on the system of experimentation, professional personnel, and management mechanism of ICGEB headquarters, the laboratory will provide fast, efficient, and high-level research and development services for Taizhou biopharmaceutical enterprises and related research institutes, accelerating technology transformation and industrial upgrading.
The laboratory will also become a two-way resource platform, introducing international advanced technology, products, and talents, while promoting China's biopharmaceutical achievements accessible to Europe through the ICGEB network.
As early as May 2023, Wan Wenhua, mayor of Taizhou, led a team to visit ICGEB's Italian headquarters. She also held talks with Director General Lawrence Banks and signed a memorandum of cooperation to jointly plan the construction of the Trieste offshore laboratory, with the goal of creating a cutting-edge biopharmaceutical platform that radiates across Europe and Asia.
