Jiangsu Weihe Biotechnology, located in China Medical City, Taizhou, Jiangsu province, received good news that its independently developed human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genotyping test kit (fluorescence PCR method) has been approved for the market.
It disrupts the longstanding dominance of multinational corporations in the market, thereby enhancing the strategic objectives of the Taizhou initiative for the advancement of China's transplant diagnostics sector.
In the field of bone marrow and organ transplantation, HLA precise typing can effectively improve clinical donor utilization, shorten patient waiting periods, significantly reduce the risk of postoperative rejection, and thus prolong patient survival.

"Matching testing is an essential option that cannot be avoided in clinical diagnosis and treatment. This seemingly niche field contains vast market space," said Wang Hao, chief executive officer of the company.
Convenience and efficiency are another core advantage for Weihe to catch up with imported products, added Wang. The manual operation of this product only takes 10 minutes, and the overall time is one and a half hours, while the manual process of imported products takes nearly two hours, and the complete inspection takes six or seven hours.
Since settling in China Medical City in 2014, Weihe has anchored its goals in independent research and development, domestic substitution, and precision medicine, focusing on transplantation diagnosis and precision blood transfusion, and continuously building differentiated competitive advantages.
As of now, the company has obtained more than 20 national invention patents and has invested over 100 million yuan ($14.73 million) in R&D.
