Education flourishes in Hailing district

Hailing district is the main urban area of Taizhou city, East China's Jiangsu province.

It has nurtured and served as the hometown of many talented artists and famous people over the centuries, such as Zhang Huaiguan, a calligrapher in the Tang Dynasty (618-907); Hu Yuan, an educator in the Song Dynasty (960-1279); Wang Gen, a philosopher during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644); Liu Jingting, a master storytelling who lives in both the Ming and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties; Mei Lanfang, a Peking Opera star; and Shan Sheng, an overseas Chinese entrepreneur in Europe. It is also the place where former president Hu Jintao was born and raised.

Hailing is also a township that is famous in terms of education. There are 72 schools and kindergartens in the district, including four high schools, five middle schools, eight nine-year schools that cover primary and junior middle school education, eight primary schools, and 47 kindergartens.

The district focuses on scientific research to promote education and development while strengthening the team-building of teachers.

Hailing is also the leader in terms of basic education in Taizhou. It has made fruitful achievements in teaching, curriculum construction, teacher development, student quality, and other areas. Having placed special attention on educating students about science and technology, its comprehensive strength as an educational powerhouse puts it at the forefront of the province.

Higher education in Hailing district has witnessed rapid development in recent years. The district is home to more than 10 higher educational institutions and technical schools, registering 30,000 graduates a year on average who major in technical manufacturing, electronics and information, and computer software.

Meanwhile, the district government has mapped out promotional policies for human resources by advocating training programs between enterprises and educational institutions. Over 200,000 workers are drawn to Hailing every year to further their careers and upgrade their skills.
