During the recent National Day holiday, Taizhou city, located in East China's Jiangsu province, handled 5.26 million visits, a 17.59 percent surge on the same period last year.

During the seven days, the Fengcheng River scenic area alone received 402,700 visits, a whopping 77.77 percent gain.

The star performance was attributed to the scintillating cultural and tourism events offered by the city, which attracted crowds of people from near and far.

On the morning of Oct 1, nearly a hundred cultural and artistic workers formed six volunteer service teams. They were dispatched to nearly 50 grassroots locations in the city to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China with cultural and artistic activities.

In addition, special opera performances were staged at Mei Lanfang Memorial Hall, Dutian Palace and other places during the break. Classic plays of Huaiju Opera, Peking Opera and Yangju Opera thrilled audiences.

A wide variety of choices for people to thoroughly enjoy the holiday were on offer. In one event, on the evening of Oct 1, 800 drones took off from the sky above Wanghai Pavilion, creating a visual extravaganza of intertwined lights and shadows that enchanted spectators.

Elsewhere, the Qinhu River scenic area put on crab-related activities, including crab fishing, crab binding and food tasting, providing an unforgettable experience for visitors.
