The Colorful He'an Scenic Area in Hailing district, Taizhou, has recently been adorned with over a dozen shades of rapeseed flowers, including vibrant orange, pink, white, and purple hues.

He'an is a unique piece of natural terrain that defines Huagang town in Hailing district. It is characterized by independently distributed, irregularly shaped small plots of land scattered among waterways.

In recent years, Huagang town has capitalized on He'an to create the natural scenic area covering 1,000 mu (about 66.67 hectares). From above, the stunning view resembles a patchwork of colorful gemstones on the river's surface.

When the colorful rapeseed flowers are in full bloom, the scenic area attracts nearly 10,000 visitors daily. These flowers are not only used to create cultural and creative products but also yield oil from their seeds, thereby enhancing both their aesthetic appeal and economic value.

This year, enhanced soil conditions have improved the viewing experience of the flowers, with plants now reaching heights of up to 70 centimeters. The blooming period is set to continue until mid-April.

Fang Jie, a staff member from Xidong village in Huagang town, said that the colorful rapeseed flowers yield approximately 500 jin (250 kilogram) of seeds per mu, with an average profit of over 1,500 yuan ($204.31).

Fang added that this has provided employment and increased income for more than 200 local villagers. Some varieties have yields oil contents that are about 10 percent higher than those of traditional varieties.
