Taizhou officially became a part of the Shanghai-Nanjing Industrial Innovation Belt on Feb 11, bringing both opportunities and challenges to Hailing district, the city's most important distirct.
Confronted with the competitive allure of cities such as Shanghai and Suzhou, Hailing must evolve into a distinctive hub within the Yangtze River Delta's innovation network to prevent becoming marginalized.
The district must identify its niche, actively attract industries spilling over from Shanghai, and become a regional support node with strengths in high-end manufacturing, cultural and leisure activities, and green food supply chains.
It plans to concentrate on new sectors like new energy, intelligent equipment, and cultural creativity.
At the same time, Hailing aims to fully leverage its local folk culture, opera culture, and culinary heritage to attract more resources through its unique city identity.
