The greenhouse tomatoes in Sangwan village, Huagang town, Hailiang district, are recently in peak harvest season, with an average daily output exceeding 25,000 kilograms.
"We've cultivated 5 mu (about 0.33 hactare) of the Jinpeng 708 breed, yielding nearly 10,000 jin (5,000 kg) per mu. We're able to harvest 2,000 jin daily and deliver them to local markets and nearby cities like Yangzhou and Zhenjiang," said Zhu Guirong, local tomato farmer.
"Thanks to scientific management, we maintain consistent tomato quality, resulting in an annual income of 20,000 yuan ($2,744.52) per mu," Zhu added.
Sangwan village boasts around 1,600 mu of dedicated tomato crops, involving around 200 farmers. The village's tomatoes are prized for their sandy, sticky, soft, and sweet taste, thanks to the implementation of scientific, standardized, and large-scale management practices.
"This year, we've also helped several farmers introduce new varieties and established a tomato-picking experience tourism project to increase farmers' incomes and strengthen the brand recognition of local tomatoes," said Chen Jiahui, staff member of Sangwan village.
