The high-standard farmland renovation and upgrading project in Gangyang town, Hailing district, Taizhou, East China's Jiangsu province, has been progressing smoothly since the beginning of this year.

With a total investment of approximately 29 million yuan ($4.03 million), the project is divided into five lots covering 12,000 mu (800 hectares) of farmland in seven villages. Construction on lots No 3 and No 2 is well underway.

"Earth canals used to be inefficient for irrigation. The newly built hard canals reduce costs by 40 percent and significantly improve irrigation efficiency," said local farmer Zhao Wenwu.

Wei Jie, the construction manager for lot No 2, said that the main canal structures are expected to be completed before May 10, with supporting facilities finalized by June 10.

In addition, construction on two electric pumping stations, four agricultural bridges, and farm machinery access roads is progressing simultaneously, with all work scheduled for completion by the end of September.

The implementation of Gangyang town's high-standard farmland project not only optimizes agricultural infrastructure but also lays a solid foundation for modern agricultural development, further advancing the practical implementation of the local rural vitalization.
