The new cold storage facilities that came into service recently in Zhoudai village, Hailing district of Taizhou, East China's Jiangsu province, has unlocked fresh development opportunities for the local mushroom industry.

The facilities were 13 multi-tiered digital container farms jointly developed by the village and technology enterprises in July 2024. Jiangsu Meiling Agricultural Technology Co also launched a mushroom cultivation project in the village.

The container farms feature a two-level design, and their cold storage-like structure not only conserves construction materials but also significantly improves land resource utilization efficiency.

Each unit is equipped with an advanced control system capable of simulating the ideal temperature and humidity required for various mushrooms to grow under natural conditions.

Like refrigerators in field, these facilities preserve harvested mushrooms at optimal temperatures, locking in freshness and ensuring quality while reducing transportation costs, minimizing spoilage, and increasing profits, according to Ge Yongnian, head of Meiling Agricultural Technology.

Alongside the container farm project, the village has also piloted a "rice+mushroom rotation" model. Under this system, mushrooms are cultivated from early November to May, followed by rice cultivation from June to October.
