Fengdeyuan's signature steamed buns are recognized as a Taizhou municipal intangible cultural heritage item. Unlike fast-acting modern yeast, the restaurant relies on traditional sourdough starter, which requires meticulous temperature control and hand-kneading to produce soft yet chewy textures with a rich wheat flavor. Heritage keeper Zhang Rongkun emphasizes that human touch and precise experience are irreplaceable in maintaining authentic flavor.
Every morning, the kitchen prepares freshly handmade buns filled with wild herbs, pork, or crab roe, served alongside classic Huaiyang specialties like shredded tofu and fish soup noodles. The restaurant has become a popular first stop for out-of-town visitors, with many arriving straight from the station carrying luggage.
To meet rising demand, Fengdeyuan expanded its premises, adding nearly 500 seats and 12 private dining rooms. To provide an accommodating dining environment, the restaurant announced that no minimum spend will be required for private rooms, catering flexibly to family gatherings and tourist groups.
