The Yaowang sub-district in Taixing city – administered by Taizhou, in East China's Jiangsu province – was recently honored as one of 770 national agricultural industry strong towns by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
In May 2020, Yaowang sub-district – previously known as Yaowang town – started construction of a national agricultural industry strong town, with a planned investment of 30.5 million yuan ($4.18 million). This year, it completed the project's construction and passed the performance evaluation.
During the period, it has established a high-standard modern fisheries industry park, with a river crab breeding area, freshwater fish breeding area and special aquaculture area.
Moreover, the sub-district has installed internet of things remote monitoring, intelligent quality and safety supervision, tailwater dynamic monitoring and early warnings, video real-time monitoring and remote control platforms, to further improve the breeding efficiency.
In the last three years, Yaowang sub-district has attracted 12 agricultural projects in total worth over 10 million yuan each – including four projects worth over 50 million yuan and three projects worth over 100 million yuan.
In terms of rural tourism, it's developed a processing industry for refined aquatic products, as well as plum blossom and flower and wood industries, in a bid to create a model zone for the development of agricultural tourism in the northern region.
Relying on the ecological conservation zone in its eastern suburbs, it's aiming to boost the homestay economy and the leisure agriculture sector.
