The land on which the section of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu high-speed railway will be built in Taizhou city, East China's Jiangsu province, has now been approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Spanning 52 kilometers in total, the Taizhou section – billed at 12.8 billion yuan ($1.75 billion) – will pass through Taixing city, Taizhou Medical High-tech Zone and Jiangyan district, encompassing 10 towns and streets along the route.

Two new stations will also be built – Taizhou South Railway Station and Huangqiao Railway Station.

The project promises to strengthen communications and connections between Taizhou and Shanghai, Nanjing, as well as other large and medium-sized cities in the central and western regions.

Looking ahead, the trip from Taizhou to Shanghai will be shortened from two and a half hours at present to about an hour, while the ride from Taizhou to Nanjing in Jiangsu province will be truncated from 80 minutes to under an hour.

Getting from Taizhou to Wuhan, Chongqing, and Chengdu will take just about 2 hours, 5 hours, and 6 hours, respectively, when the high-speed trains are up and running.
