From January to November, the Taizhou International Container Terminal – located in the Taizhou Medical High-tech Zone, in Taizhou city, in East China's Jiangsu province – got into high gear, reaching its container handling capacity, according to local media report.

The latest statistics available show that from January to November it handled 299,000 TEUs – or twenty-foot equivalent units, the benchmark container size – which was up 6.3 percent year-on-year.

Of that, the handling of foreign trade was 139,200 TEUs, up 11.5 percent year-on-year, while handling of domestic trade stood at 159,800 TEUs, up 2.1 percent.

In recent years, despite the impact of COVID-19, operator Taizhou International Container Terminal Co Ltd has in succession opened up routes from Taizhou Port to Liaoning province, Japan, Korea and other destinations.

At present, Taizhou International Container Terminal has commercial relations with 22 branch route operations companies. It has also opened up more than 50 branch fast-track routes – including 23 foreign trade routes and 28 domestic routes – connected to many international destinations.

Moving forwards, plans are for Taizhou Port to open up more direct routes for domestic trade, said Yang Shaohu, deputy-secretary of the Party branch in Taizhou International Container Terminal Co Ltd.

"With the resources and location advantages of Taizhou port, we will strengthen cooperation with more inland ports," Yang added.
