Raft of agricultural projects boost Taizhou's villages

The Taizhou Medical High-tech Zone – also known as the Gaogang district of Taizhou city, located in China's East Jiangsu province – has been highlighting modern agriculture of late.

It's been promoting the integration of agriculture and tourism and the construction of specialist agriculture, in a bid to boost the local economy and rural vitalization.

The fields in Daichen village in Huzhuang town, used to be inefficient Ginkgo forests, but they're now attracting citizens and tourists to barbecue, go fishing and camping there.

It does credit to Daichen village's efforts in replanning the area and developing special agricultural tourism projects there.

With a collective village investment of over 300,000 yuan ($41,854), the area now provides camping, barbecues, fishing, parent-child farming activities, as well as other activities for tourists.

At the same time, the village has renovated and expanded idle factories to carry out a village-enterprise venture that is producing crispy rice cakes.

Elsewhere in Chenjia village in Baima town, the focus is on efficient and specialized agriculture. To improve the commercial benefits of fruit and vegetable planting, the village has invested over 3 million yuan to build a cold storage preservation facility next to a vineyard.

What's more, the village's rice processing project has now passed acceptance, which is expected to add 5,000 metric tons of rice processing capacity.

By end-June, 18 major agricultural and rural projects had been constructed in the Taizhou Medical High-tech Zone, with a planned investment of 763 million yuan in the current year.
