Over the past five years, the Taixing High-tech Zone in Taixing, Jiangsu province, has focused on developing green and low-carbon equipment, intelligent equipment, and modern service industries. This has seen it emerge as a thriving science and technology innovation hub.
During that period, the zone has focused on developing two 10-billion-yuan-level ($1.49-billion) characteristic industrial clusters to scale up economically.
The green and low-carbon equipment industry has gathered 97 upstream and downstream enterprises, covering fields such as environmental protection governance and efficient energy conservation.
The product matrix has covered 66 of the 115 major environmental protection technologies and equipment encouraged by the government for development.
The intelligent equipment industry focuses on two major fields: transmission machinery and integrated circuit equipment. Enterprises in the former field have taken the lead in participating in the formulation of 21 national and industry standards.
Over the past five years, the zone has signed 177 projects worth over 100 million yuan each, including 71 projects worth over 500 million yuan apiece and 17 worth over 1 billion yuan each. Construction has begun on 88 projects worth over 100 million yuan each while 69 of similar value have been completed.

Dedicated efforts have also been made to promote the gradual cultivation of enterprises and providing them with tailored services. The zone is now home to over 200 industrial enterprises, 92 companies above designated size and 62 high-tech firms.
The zone has been firmly implementing its innovation-driven development strategy and building a comprehensive innovation system that integrates platform, talent, and industrial ecosystem.
As a prime example, it has established the first national training base for environmental protection talents and a semiconductor talent cultivation base in the Yangtze River Delta region.
