The Food Safety Office of Xuzhuang sub-district in the Taizhou Port Economic Development Zone visited Xuzhuang Primary School and Kongqiao Primary School for a campaign to strengthen awareness of food safety among students ahead of the World Consumer Rights Day.
Using a slideshow, staff explained the basics of food safety to students. They focused on how to identify items with no producer, no production date, and no quality certificate, as well as how to check labels for expiration dates. They also discussed the risks of eating too much junk food high in oil, salt, and sugar often sold near schools.
After the talk, staff took students into the school cafeteria for a firsthand look. They walked students through the process, from checking ingredients and preparing food to cleaning dishes and storing samples. It gave students a clear picture of the steps being taken to keep their meals safe.
Students also received handouts with food safety tips and were asked to share them at home. This way, the message reached beyond the classroom.
By combining an educational session with a hands-on tour, the event gave students a clear understanding of both food safety and cafeteria management, enhancing their ability to protect themselves and make healthy choices.
